Do We Have a Dupe?...Lash Primer

I love eye makeup and there's no denying that, but what eye look is complete without
lashes, right? Whether you want to add drama, or maybe applying false lashes are too time consuming and tedious (maybe there is a latex allergy) we can explore an alternative - lash primer. A lash primer can offer the length and fullness of falsies, without all the hassle.

The Pacifica lash primer has been such a prominent addition to my makeup collection because it adds length and definition to the lashes without making them look too clumpy or spidery. With nourishing ingredients such as vegan collagen and vitamins E and B, this primer not only creates definition but also hydrates and promotes healthy lashes too. The component is a glass bottle with a plastic handle that has typical mascara wand style bristles. The consistency of the lash primer is comparable to a typical mascara but white in colour and just a little thicker. Paired with their Fluffy Lash Collagen Mascara, this duo creates stunning fanned out lashes that give the appearance of falsies. And coming from a person with extremely sensitive eyes, this duo has not caused any itchiness or irritation at all (hooray).
Lets compare ingredients from a conventional beauty brands lash primer to a safer, greener formulation. Looking at the conventional brands ingredient list I see many different types of silicones as well as a ingredient named Polyquaternium-10 which is a formaldehyde releasing agent (formaldehyde is a colourless, malodorous chemical that can contribute to cancers). The issue with cosmetics, or any products in general, that contain silicones is that they are not earth friendly and cannot biodegrade. Studies have deemed silicones to be detrimental to the health of freshwater species, causing lingering toxins to stay stagnant in water for long periods of time, thus negatively affecting the wildlife who access the waterways daily. So it seems like a easy fix, right, removing products from your collection that contain silicones. Not necessarily - silicones have many names hidden in long ingredient lists, so let's breakdown the most common silicone derivatives together.
Common silicone derivative names:
› Dimethicone
› Isododecane
› Cyclomethicone
› PEG or PPG Dimethicone
› Phenyl trimethicone
› Cyclopentasiloxane
› Bis-Stearyl Dimethicone
› Polymethylsilsesquioxane
› Caprylyl Methicone
You might be shocked to find out that a lot of these silicone derivatives can be found in your favourite "clean beauty" formulations, whether it be in mascaras, foundation, or even cream eyeshadows, silicone can affect your skin and the environment in many ways. Together we can learn and explore alternatives for safer products for the earth and you, starting with one product at a time!
From the photos shown above, the left side has one coat of the Pacifica Collagen Lash Primer, and photo on the right has both one coat of Pacifica Collagen Lash Primer with one coat of Fluffy Lash Collagen Mascara on top.
So the next time you need to refresh your mascara, or just want to try something new, will you be picking up this dynamic duo? I assure you it is worth every penny, the Collagen Lash Primer is definitely worth the try.
Take care,
Nat xx
