Concealer can help us in a pinch, it's a great multitasking tool. It's used to spot conceal imperfections, hide those dark circles, and even cover up tattoos! With the coverage it offers, the possibilities are endless. Here are my top tips to get the most out of your concealer.
1st Tip: One of my favourite uses for concealer is using it as a eyeshadow base. It offers a full coverage base so your shadows adhere better and it brings out those bold colours! If you're like me and have freckles on your eyelids it can create a nice clean slate for eyeshadow looks, and it can also cover up those tiny little veins on our eyelids too. (I recommend setting your concealer before you apply your eyeshadows with a translucent powder, or a powder close to your skin tone so it matches the rest of your skin)
2nd Tip: Concealer can be mixed with a eyeshadow to create a custom colour base. Say you want to use a lavender eyeshadow but its a bit too sheer, you can mix a small amount of concealer with that eye shadow and apply it to your eyelid and set it with the same shade to get a more opaque colour.
3rd Tip: Concealers make a great eyeliner base! (Check out my tutorial here) You can apply it with an angled or pointed tip brush and add eyeshadow on top to create custom eyeliner.
4th Tip: Concealer also comes in handy when you've accidentally made your winged liner too long or big. You can simply cover up your mistake by using a small flat brush and cover up or sharpen your line.
So here it is, all the concealers i've tested in clean/green beauty so you don't have to waste time and money. Because after all, natural beauty products can be pricey. I've curated a list to decipher which products deliver and which ones just don't. I've categorized them with a rating system out of five, 0 being worst and 5 being the best based on my experience from using them. That being said, I have a dry skin texture so these reviews are examples of how they react on my skin. This list also has clickable links, just hover over the product name and click to be directed to the website.
Let's find out which work best... and which ones are mediocre.
$42 USD - 6ml - 38 Shades - V - Cruelty-free - Gluten-free
This concealer has a whipped texture, offers medium to full coverage, and is unscented. It comes in tube packaging with a doe foot applicator. The opening to the inside is quite large, so be careful to not pull the wand out too quickly as it might splatter. This concealer is best applied with your fingers or a sponge to create a flawless blend. The finish is satin matte so you can apply this to most areas without having to set it with powder. This concealer is great for oilier skin types, or complexions with uneven texture as it adheres nicely. This concealer does dry down, and with my dry skin it tends to absorb the product and can stick and emphasize dry patches. If you have a drier skin texture I recommend using a really hydrating base before application.
$28 USD -15 Shades - V - Cruelty-free
This concealer has a serum consistency, it offers light coverage, and has a mild earthy scent to it (no fragrance). The component is a partial PCR plastic tube with doe foot applicator, and it applies best with your fingers or a brush (a makeup sponge will absorb this product due to its thinner consistency). I adore this concealer, although it has lighter coverage, it makes up for barely creasing or setting into fine lines around the eye area! This is a wonderful option for people with mature skin who just want to add a little oomph to their complexion. This concealer would also be a great option for teens who want to add just a touch of makeup to their skin. My favourite way to use this concealer is actually as a foundation. As someone with a dry skin texture it creates a really nice hydrating base.

$30 CAD - 5g - 6 Shades - V - Cruelty-free
This concealer has a cream consistency, it offers full coverage, and is unscented. The component is a plastic compact with a mirror - great for travel. This concealer works really well to camouflage dark circles under the eyes and hide acne but you have to set this concealer. It is best applied with a brush and then your fingers to pat/press into the skin to create a flawless blend. The texture of this concealer works well as a eyeshadow base, or also to create a cut crease on the eye as well. This concealer works well if you have dry skin because it does not stick to dry patches and accentuate them!
$30 USD - 10.8ml - 20 Shades - V - Cruelty-free
This concealer has become a staple in my makeup bag. It offers medium to full coverage, has a whipped texture, and is unscented. The component is a partial PCR tube with a doe foot applicator, the applicator is larger than other brands which is contrary because you need so little product to achieve full coverage with this concealer it will last a lifetime (but don't use after expiry date :p - because you'll have it for that long)! It blends out easily with a sponge, your fingers, and even a brush. It sets itself after application - you don't need to use too much powder, and it is almost completely creaseless. Fantastic shade range, great price for size and overall a pretty perfect concealer.
$26 USD - 8ml - 11 Shades - V - Cruelty-free
This concealer has a whipped liquid texture, offers medium to full coverage and has a pleasant sweet scent to it (think coconut sunscreen). Offers a matte finish and dries down well so you don't need to set it all that much. This concealer does oxidize quite a bit, so be wary when choosing a shade that will best match you.
$43 USD - 6g - 11 Shades - V - Cruelty-free - Gluten-free
This concealer has a cream consistency, offers medium to full coverage and has a mild stick concealer scent to it. The component is a glass pot with a plastic twist on lid. The undertones for these concealers are really great, they offer true neutral shades! This concealer blends out nicely with a brush or your fingers, and needs to be set fairly quickly so it does not crease.
$45 USD - 5g - 8 Shades - V - Cruelty-free - Gluten-free
This concealer has a cream consistency, offers medium coverage and has a mild medical glove-like scent to it. The component is a glass jar with a metal twist on lid. This concealer blends out nicely with a brush, your fingers, and even a sponge. It does seem to have a slight grainy texture to it. This formula contains a form of silicone, polymethylsilsesquioxane (I personally don't use silicones but I tested it for you guys).
$48USD - 10 ml - 6 Shades - V - Cruelty-free - Gluten-free
This cream corrector has a creamy liquid consistency, offers light to medium coverage, and is unscented. It blends out best with a brush or fingertips, I don't recommend a sponge because of its liquid consistency it will be absorbed. The component is a PCR plastic tube with a twist-off lid.
$18 USD -11.2 ml - 5 Shades - V - Cruelty-free - Gluten-free
This concealer has a mild earthy sage scent, has a liquid creamy consistency, in tube packaging with doe foot applicator, and offers full coverage. This concealer is excellent for covering up dark circles and pigmentation. It can be applied with a sponge or a brush, I like to apply it with a flat concealer brush and blend out with a small sponge. It has nourishing ingredients like argan oil and shea butter which keep my under eye area hydrated. I recommend setting this concealer quickly as it can crease. My favourite way to use this concealer is as a eyeshadow base or under the eyes to create a beautiful lifted/awake look.
*This formula was updated and now contains silicone (dimethicone) - so I have not repurchased to update performance.
$25 CAD - 3g - 9 Shades - V - Cruelty-free - Gluten-free
This concealer is unscented, has a creamy consistency, comes in a bamboo compact with removable tin (refillable packaging), and offers medium coverage. It is best applied with a brush and blends out nicely. Because of the creamy texture this concealer does crease, so be sure to set it after applying. I would not recommend this concealer for those with oiler skin types because the formulation is made with plant oils and can separate the product from the skin. My favourite way to use this concealer is as a eyeshadow and eyeliner base, it offers a great foundation for eyeshadows. Refills are also available, so you don't have to repurchase the packaging!
$39 USD - 5 ml - 10 Shades - V - Cruelty-free - Gluten-free
This concealer has a mild 'stick concealer scent', it has a drier cream texture, has tube packing with a twist up (like a lipstick), and offers medium to full coverage. This concealer is wonderful for the person who loves to use their fingers to apply their makeup. It adheres nicely to the skin when applied with your fingertips, the warmth from your fingers helps blend this out into a soft matte finish. Au Naturale really does a wonderful job with undertones.
$39.36 CAD - 5 g - 7 Shades - V - Cruelty-free
This concealer has a mild earthy scent, it has a liquid serum consistency, has tube packaging with a doe foot applicator, and offers light to medium coverage. The shade range for this concealer runs warm and oxidizes on the skin (even the lightest shade is too yellow and dark for my complexion, I wish they offered lighter shades because I really really love the texture and lightweight feel it has). It dries down to a satin finish and you do not need a lot of powder to set this concealer.
$39.60 CAD - 3g - 6 Shades - V - Cruelty-free
This concealer has a pomade texture, offers very sheer light coverage, and is unscented. It comes in a plastic compact with a mirror, and has a very short shelf life - 6 months. There is not one thing I like about this concealer (sorry)! It does not apply well to the skin, it has a very thick balmy texture and blends out into nothing.
I hope this review helped give you some insight on concealers in the natural beauty realm. This review is on only a handful of concealers in natural beauty, as I add to my collection I'll be sure to update this list. Let me know if you've tried any of these and what your favourite concealer is! Enjoy the rest of your day!
Take care,
Nat xx
